    Profile

Dinesh Karthik made his Test debut against Australia in Mumbai in the “dustbowl” November 2004 match, and made an impression both with the bat and as a frontline wicket keeper. In 2007, his strong batting technique withstood the seaming conditions in England in his role as a specialist opener.Backed by his ability to play free-flowing strokes, he not only produced three good-on-the-eye fifties but also set up a famous series win. At one point, he was rated India’s best wicketkeeper and his acrobatic stumping on one-day debut in September 2004 at Lord’s to send back England captain Michael Vaughan justified the opinion. After the emergence of MS Dhoni, he continued to play for India as a pure batsman and was an asset on the field. He was the man of the match in India’s maiden Twenty20 match against South Africa in Johannesburg in December 2006. His poor run during the last phase of his first tilt in international cricket led to his omission as Parthiv Patel and Wriddhiman Saha staked their claims. Karthik continues to score heavily in domestic cricket and can still claim a spot in the national team. He was a part of Delhi Daredevils for the first three seasons of IPL, after which Kings XI Punjab picked him up. In 2012, he was transferred to Mumbai Indians.
