  Commentary

  • That's a wrap from us. Bangalore have done themselves a world of good in this game but they have a big game coming up, against Sunrisers Hyderabad, that'll be a tough challenge.

  • Player of the match - Umesh Yadav

  • Umesh Yadav: I'm bowling whatever I was thinking, I want to conitnue this form. I'm planning to attack with pace with good line and length, because when I don't do that I don't feel as confident, so I like to use my pace and bounce. We (me and Southee) keep discussing how to bowl in the death or even in the start.

  • Virat Kohli: Last week has been very crazy for us, first we were seeming down and out, but then we've come back to life. Today was a perfect game, got two crucial points and and a net run rate boost. Umesh getting rid of both openers was key. We kept them in doubt, there were dot balls, we cut out the singles and we kept taking wickets. That was very important. Once our batting clicks we know we can chase big scores, in the previous game we chased more than 180 with an over to spare. Once you get one big partnership the opposition can crumble. In our batting line up with me and AB, we can get those big scores. We have momentum at the right time, we are in a great zone, we're not going to worry about taking it to the playoffs or not. We're just going to enjoy the coming two games.

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore have done this in a canter. All of sudden they look like true contenders to make the playoffs and Kings XI Punjab are running out of steam in the end. Bangalore were clinical in the match and even that is an understatement. They have won by 10 wickets with almost 12 full overs to spare. That will do their net run rate a world of good. The table is wide open now.

  • R Ashwin: Very disappointing, not been professional. That's been the story for us, the bowlers have won us the games and the batsmen haven't really come good. We haven't gone down through the 20 overs being only three or four down. It's time to try and put Mumbai in bed in the next game, it's about winning the remaining two games. We've got a reasonable bowling attack and we can defend totals. A lot of international players haven't stepped up, it's time they tap into that experience.

  Full commentary

  • This offers Bangalore a great opportunity to increase their net run rate and that is going to be crucial to determine who gets into the top four, provided Bangalore win their remaining two games as well.

  • That's the joint-lowest total this IPL. Punjab have been terrible. After Rahul and Gayle were gone early, credit to Umesh Yadav, Punjab were always in trouble because their middle-order has been terrible.

  • So Punjab have been unlucky with the toss, but they'll take heart from the fact that Kolkata won the previous match after batting first in Indore.

  • R Ashwin: It's difficult to defend so we would have batted first as well. It's difficult for two-three players to perform all the time. It is a T20 format, very unforgiving. It's a small ground, but we have to put that aside. Unfortunately we lost Mujeeb so we have Marcus Stoinis.

  • V Kohli: We're going to bowl first, it's a difficult ground to defend. They are one mystery bowler short. Ab and I have taken the responsibility. The table is wide open, every team has to be on the button. We have to come here and express ourselves.

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore Won the Toss & Elected to Field

  • We're half an hour away from the toss, that leaves us with enough time to take a look at the preview.

  • IPL 11 Match 48 Kings XI Punjab vs Royal Challengers Bangalore Wisden India

All of them played for the same team in the Indian Premier League not too long ago Now in perhaps a missed opportunity by Royal Challengers Bangalore thats not the case anymore

  • It barely warrants a mention anymore, but just in case... every match for Royal Challengers Bangalore is a must-win. Kings XI Punjab are in a better position at present but another defeat and the they'll start feeling the pressure and the competition for the remaining two spots in the playoffs will intensify. Punjab have lost their last couple of games and with the exception of KL Rahul, Andrew Tye and Mujeeb ur Rahman, no one is really stepping up. They'll need Chris Gayle and the others to come to the party.

  Full commentary
